President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Polish President Karol Nawrocki met in New York as part of their engagements surrounding the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. After the meeting at the Turkish House, the notable exchange of gifts between the two leaders drew attention.
Polish President Nawrocki presented Erdoğan with a specially made Polish sword. Marcin Przydacz, head of the Polish Presidential Office of International Policy, said the gift was a symbolic reciprocal gesture representing the military traditions of the two countries.
During the NATO Summit held in Ankara in July, Erdoğan had given revolvers made in Türkiye and engraved with the recipients’ names to leaders including Nawrocki. Nawrocki’s sword gift in New York was made in return for that gesture.

Türkiye-Poland relations were also discussed
The meeting at the Turkish House covered bilateral relations between Türkiye and Poland, as well as regional and global developments. Erdoğan said work was continuing to increase trade between the two countries and to expand cooperation, particularly in the defense industry.
The Russia-Ukraine war, navigational safety in the Black Sea and developments in Gaza were also discussed. Erdoğan invited Nawrocki to the COP31 Leaders’ Summit, which will be held in Antalya in November.
