Türkiye produced a total of 23.1 million barrels of oil in the first half of the year, according to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. The Turkish Petroleum Corporation produced 21.8 million barrels of this total.
Gabar accounted for 60% of total oil production. Natural gas production exceeded 1.641 billion cubic meters during the same period.
The Turkish Petroleum Corporation produced 1.608 billion cubic meters of the natural gas, while private-sector companies produced 33 million cubic meters. The Sakarya Gas Field accounted for 92% of production.
Bayraktar: Production will continue to increase
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said oil production would increase with the new wells opened in Gabar, while the target in the Black Sea was to double natural gas production this year.
Bayraktar said domestic oil and natural gas production would continue to rise, adding that the goal of full independence in energy was also being supported by activities abroad.
Oil and natural gas activities abroad
Bayraktar said Türkiye continued to produce oil and natural gas by forming partnerships abroad, adding that drilling operations were ongoing in Somalia. He said licenses had been obtained for two fields in Libya, one offshore and the other onshore.
Bayraktar also announced that an agreement in Iraq had made Türkiye a partner in five fields in Kirkuk believed to contain 3 billion barrels of oil reserves.
