Türkiye’s solar power generation reached an all-time monthly high of 5.37 billion kWh in July. Solar power accounted for 15.5% of total electricity generation.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Türkiye’s total electricity generation amounted to 34.6 billion kWh in July. Hydroelectric power plants had the largest share of generation at 26.2%, producing 9.07 billion kWh.
Records for domestic and renewable sources
Renewable sources generated 20.14 billion kWh of electricity in July. This accounted for 58.2% of total electricity generation.
Electricity generation from domestic sources also reached an all-time monthly high of 24.75 billion kWh. Domestic sources accounted for 71.5% of total generation.
Daily generation records for solar and wind power
Solar power generation reached a daily record of 189,680 MWh on July 19. Wind power generated 4.16 billion kWh of electricity throughout July.
Wind power generation also reached an all-time daily high of 265,512 MWh on July 30.
Generation in the first seven months of the year
Between January 1 and July 31, hydroelectric sources generated 66.1 billion kWh, wind power generated 25.6 billion kWh, and solar power generated 24.6 billion kWh of electricity. Generation from all three sources reached its highest level for the same period since 2000.
Domestic sources generated 156 billion kWh of electricity in the first seven months of the year. Domestic sources accounted for 73.9% of total generation, while the 128.8 billion kWh generated from renewable sources represented 61% of total generation.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said the increase in generation based on solar and domestic sources showed that the energy transition was continuing. Bayraktar said two monthly records had been set in July: one for generation based on domestic sources and another for solar power generation.
