Incendiary devices intended to cause arson were thrown into a construction site in front of the Munich headquarters of Rohde & Schwarz, a company operating in security technologies and communications systems for public institutions and the armed forces.
Around midnight, one of the devices thrown from a vehicle caught fire near construction containers in the Berg am Laim district. Police officers who arrived at the scene extinguished the fire. The incident caused minor property damage, and no one was injured.
Police detained a 28-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man at a gas station in connection with the incident. Both suspects are Bulgarian nationals.
A second incendiary device found at the scene was determined not to have exploded. Special teams from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office neutralized the device, while the area was sealed off for security reasons during the operation.
The suspects’ links to the incident are under investigation. Authorities are also examining the possible motive for the attempted arson and how the incident was carried out.
A similar act of sabotage occurred in 2021
In 2021, an exposed power line at an excavation site near the Rohde & Schwarz facility was also set on fire. In a letter published online, a group claiming responsibility for the incident described the act as an “attack on a defense contractor.”
The 2021 incident has not yet been solved. The sabotage caused a power outage affecting 20,000 households in eastern Munich, but the company said its operations were not affected.
