While talks on a KAAN fighter jet partnership between Spain and Turkey continue, members of the US House of Representatives held talks in Madrid to market the F-35.
According to Infodefensa's report, Nathaniel Moran, Jim Costa, Brendan Boyle, and Craig Goldman, accompanied by US Ambassador to Spain Benjamin Leon, visited Spanish Trade Minister Carlos Cuerpo.
US Congress members insisted that Spain should purchase F-35 aircraft.
Spanish government officials, however, brought up the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) report stating that only a quarter of American F-35s are operationally ready.
Additionally, concerns were raised during the meeting about the lack of sovereignty over the fighter jets. It was stated that this situation was not welcomed by the Spanish Air Force.
The American lawmakers who visited Spain have financial ties with Lockheed Martin. The lawmakers who came to Madrid for lobbying activities are on Lockheed Martin's donation list.
