Republican US Representative Mike Turner announced that talks at the NATO Ankara Summit on Turkey's return to the F-35 fighter jet program were promising.
Turner, appearing on CBS News, said that Turkish officials met with US congressional members on the sidelines of the summit. "I cannot disclose what Turkish officials told us, but what we heard was promising. Everyone who attended the meeting agreed that what we heard was encouraging," he said.

Turner also pointed out that Turkey is one of the manufacturers of F-35 parts, stressing that Turkey's reintegration into the program is "extremely important." "Turkey is a very strong NATO member. It also hosted a very successful summit. I hope it continues on this path and reaps the benefits," he added.
Six years ago, the US Congress passed a law stipulating Turkey's removal from the F-35 program if it acquired the Russian-made S-400 air defense system. The law was based on the risk of sensitive data leaking to Russia.
