US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, UK Secretary of Defense John Healey, and Australian Secretary of Defense Richard Marles met at the security forum in Singapore to announce the development efforts of unmanned underwater vehicle technology. The three countries plan for this technology to be ready next year. UK Secretary of Defense Healey stated that his country will contribute 201 million dollars to the project and that sensors and weapon systems for unmanned underwater vehicles will also be developed. It was expressed that these developments will provide advanced contributions to the countries' defense technologies. Australia announced that it will invest approximately 2.7 billion dollars for the construction of a shipyard to support nuclear submarine production under the AUKUS agreement. The AUKUS security agreement was signed in 2021 between the USA, UK, and Australia, aiming for Australia to establish a fleet of nuclear-powered submarines. Under the agreement, at least 8 nuclear submarines are planned to be built at shipyards in Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. While the three countries increase cooperation due to regional security concerns, the US Department of Defense continues to support the agreement. The total cost of the project has not yet been announced.
