The anti-cheat software Vanguard of the Valorant game released a new update to block special cheat hardware called DMA (Direct Memory Access). These cheats could bypass classic anti-cheat systems by reading the game's memory through external hardware. Vanguard's latest update not only detects such cheats but reportedly targeted and damaged some SATA and NVMe firmware structures. This situation caused the firmware of the detected devices to become unusable. It is stated that users need to format their devices to resolve the issues they encountered. Riot Games' measure is considered an important step to prevent cheating, but the hardware damages sparked debates.
