Von der Leyen: Dangerous Ceuta crossings must stop immediately
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described the images from Ceuta as unacceptable and called for dangerous crossings to be stopped immediately. She said Spain would be given Frontex support and that cooperation with Morocco would bear fruit.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the images coming from Ceuta were unacceptable.
Von der Leyen said, “We cannot allow anyone to enter the European Union without following our rules. Dangerous crossings must stop immediately, people-smuggling networks must be dismantled, and returns must be carried out swiftly within the framework of our rules.”
Explaining that additional operational support including Frontex would be provided to Spain, von der Leyen said she believed close cooperation with Morocco would yield concrete results.
