As anxiety rises not only among students but also their parents before the LGS exam scheduled for Saturday, it has been emphasized that the language families use on the eve of the exam can directly affect children's performance.
Cihan Yeşilyurt, Guidance Coordinator at Doğa College, stated that phrases like "This exam will determine your life," "You must get this score," and "Don't get nervous" can increase the pressure on the student. Yeşilyurt stressed that families should make their children feel confident.
The Child's Process Should Take Priority Over Family Expectations
Yeşilyurt pointed out that every student has different goals, potentials, and interests. He emphasized that families should not try to fulfill their own expectations through their children and that a child's value does not change regardless of the exam result.
The Guidance Coordinator also said that what matters is the effort, determination, and perseverance shown throughout the process. He added that this approach can help enter the exam morning with a calmer and more balanced mindset.
Visiting the Exam Location in Advance Can Reduce Anxiety
Yeşilyurt explained that seeing the school where the exam will take place beforehand can reduce the student's feeling of uncertainty. He noted that regular sleep, balanced nutrition, and light exercise can positively affect mental performance.
He advised avoiding unusual foods the day before the exam, preparing documents such as identity cards and exam entrance papers in advance, and refraining from heavy physical activities. He stated that it is better for students to focus on resting rather than studying on the last day.
Calmness and Confidence Recommended for the Last Day
Yeşilyurt highlighted that the last day before the exam is critical for mental preparation and emphasized that students should trust the knowledge they have and the effort they have shown. He stressed the importance of staying calm, believing in oneself, and focusing on doing the best with the available resources.
Motivating students with the words, "Your effort, belief, and the strength you possess will lead you to success," Yeşilyurt also urged families to adopt a supportive attitude rather than applying pressure during this process.
