The historic school located in the 7 Ocak neighborhood of the city, built in 1911, was evacuated due to damage on the ground floor caused by the February 6, 2023 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. Students were transferred to Mithatpaşa Primary School. The school, registered as a cultural heritage site by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, has reached the final stages of restoration and reinforcement work.
Osmaniye Provincial Director of National Education Aydın Albak stated that the restored school holds an important place in Osmaniye's educational history and that the building will reopen to students in September. Albak noted that the school began its educational activities in 1911 and has served continuously, adding that the second floor, built as reinforced concrete in 1974, added extra load to the structure.
The building suffered heavy damage in the February 6 earthquakes. After the earthquake, working with architects and restoration experts, we completed the restoration to return the building to its oldest and original state. We removed the later additions. In their place, we constructed a modern educational building that does not disrupt the silhouette and character of the historic structure, he said.

Highlighting the school's spiritual value for the city, Albak said, "This building is not just a school; it is also a part of Osmaniye's historical fabric. It has formed an emotional bond with the city and stands out with its architecture. We carried out the restoration faithfully to this architecture. The school, renewed in accordance with its original form, will come alive again with the voices of our children starting in September."
He added, "This is a great source of pride for us."
