The Washington Post reported that the Trump administration is preparing an ammunition sale to Israel with a total value of $2.8 billion. The sale could be one of the largest single ammunition deals in recent years.
The US administration has approved the sale of 20,000 MK-84 bombs and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs. Each bomb weighs approximately one ton.
The package also includes armor-piercing warheads
Approval is also expected for the sale of 20,000 I-2000 Penetrator armor-piercing warheads as part of the same package. MK-84 bombs have been used repeatedly by Israel in Gaza and have a highly destructive impact.

Congress received an informal notification about the sale. The formal notification is expected to be sent shortly, and the deal is seen as a significant test for Democrats.

US official: We do not comment on unfinished agreements
An unnamed US official said that all foreign arms sales are subject to existing procedures and that officials do not comment on agreements that have not yet been finalized.
In 2025, the Trump administration also approved a $2.04 billion arms sale to Israel by bypassing congressional review. The decision sparked debate among Democrats and Republicans.
