The Prisoners Information Office in Gaza revealed that the administration of Dammam Prison has confiscated most of the prayer clothes and scarves belonging to female prisoners. According to the office, this step has made it more difficult for the female detainees to perform their prayers and imposed a new restriction on their religious rights.
The office reported that women held in the prison have recently faced increasing difficulties in fulfilling their religious duties. The statement emphasized that due to the confiscated garments, praying has ceased to be a part of their daily life.
Living conditions in the prison are worsening
According to the office, the female prisoners are not only affected by this practice but also face insufficient food and poor quality in some meals. Limited access to cleaning supplies and difficulties in meeting basic needs have also been reported as complaints.
The office further noted that some detainees’ requests for medical care have been responded to late, with health applications being delayed, exacerbating daily hardships. The statement also mentioned that punitive measures and pressure tactics are occasionally implemented within the prison.
Number of female prisoners approaches 95
The Prisoners Information Office also announced that the number of female prisoners in Israeli jails has risen to approximately 95. According to the office, recent arrest waves have included mothers, wives of prisoners, university students, and young women from various cities.
The statement argued that the pressure in prisons has increased not only physically but also psychologically. Female detainees face raids, beatings, and repeated searches.
Call to human rights organizations
The office called on human rights institutions and relevant international organizations for urgent intervention. Their goal is the return of the confiscated prayer garments and the protection of the detainees’ religious and humanitarian rights.
According to the office, the prison administration’s practices make the daily lives of female prisoners even more difficult. The statement noted that this policy has hardened the overall conditions in the prison and intensified the pressure on female detainees.
