Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha has called on the world to respond after Russia attacked the central used nuclear fuel storage facility in the Kyiv region.
Sibiha emphasized that this is not the first time Russia has posed a threat to Ukraine's nuclear facilities. He described Russia's nuclear blackmail and threats as systematic, deliberate, and unacceptable.
The minister stated that these attacks must be condemned globally and called for increased pressure on the aggressor country.
Night Attack on Facility Near Chernobyl
Ukraine's nuclear energy company announced on the morning of June 7 that a Russian drone attacked the central used nuclear fuel storage building in Chernobyl during the night hours.
The attack targeted a facility near the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Following this announcement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also condemned the attack.
The incident has brought renewed attention to the risks the war poses to Ukraine's nuclear infrastructure. The targeted facility in the Kyiv region is considered one of the country's most sensitive energy and security sites.
