Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke at a panel titled “Türkiye-US Relations as We Enter the 100th Year,” organized by the Directorate of Communications of the Presidency in New York.
Fidan said the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and the United States was approaching, adding that the partnership between the two countries had endured despite crises and changes in the international system.
Fidan said Türkiye-US relations had gained strong and renewed momentum, noting that the relationship between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and US President Donald Trump played a central role in the current process.

Target of $100 billion in trade
Fidan said economic relations were expanding in both trade and investment, noting that bilateral trade had reached approximately $40 billion. Recalling the $100 billion trade target set by President Erdoğan, Fidan said barriers to trade, particularly additional tariffs, needed to be removed to achieve this goal.

Call to remove restrictions on defense cooperation
Fidan emphasized that defense cooperation was one of the key pillars of Türkiye-US relations, saying that existing problems needed to be resolved and restrictions limiting cooperation needed to be lifted.
Fidan said removing such restrictions between the two allies could help Turkish and American companies develop more comprehensive partnerships in different regions.

Call on the US regarding Israel
Fidan also addressed developments in the Middle East, saying Gaza continued to be a critical test for regional security and stability.
Fidan said they expected the US to make greater use of its influence over Israel, calling on Washington to help preserve regional and global peace and stability.
Syria, Iraq, Ukraine, the Caucasus, the Black Sea and the Balkans were also among the regional issues Fidan assessed in terms of Türkiye-US cooperation.
Emphasis on global cooperation in the “second century”
Fidan said that as Türkiye and the United States entered the second century of their diplomatic relations, the partnership between the two countries needed to be further institutionalized and existing problems resolved.
He said Türkiye’s goal was to develop the Turkish-American partnership not only in terms of bilateral relations but also in a way that would contribute to global peace and stability.
