Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) issued a warning as heavy rain is expected in the city from tomorrow morning.
Cool and rainy weather moving in from the Balkans is expected to affect the Marmara Region, particularly Istanbul. Northerly winds are forecast to reach speeds of 20–50 kilometers per hour.
Temperatures to fall by 6–8 degrees
Temperatures, currently ranging between 26 and 28 degrees, are expected to drop by 6–8 degrees starting tomorrow. Intermittent showers are forecast across the city.
Heavy rain is expected to intensify in the Marmara Region from 20:00 tomorrow. Precipitation of 30 to 60 kilograms per square meter is forecast across the European side, the area around the Bosphorus and the Anatolian side.
Thunderstorms forecast
The northeasterly wind, which is bringing humid air from the Black Sea to the region, is expected to increase humidity. Because the upper levels of the atmosphere will be cold while sea and land surfaces remain warm, heavy thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, thunder and storms may occur.
Heavy rain is expected to affect the city until 17:00 on Wednesday. Residents were urged to remain vigilant and take precautions against flash floods, possible disruptions to transportation, lightning and other adverse effects caused by the heavy rain.
