Türkiye's Ambassador to Nicosia Ali Murat Başçeri met with María Angela Holguín Cuéllar, the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General's Personal Representative for Cyprus, on November 3. The embassy announced that the meeting took place at its building in Nicosia but provided no details about the discussions.
Photographs released by the embassy show Başçeri and Holguín seated with their delegations in an office containing the Turkish flag.

Holguín takes up the role for a second time
Holguín, who served as Colombia's foreign minister from 2010 to 2018, first held the post related to the Cyprus issue from January to July 2024. After the informal Cyprus meeting held in Geneva in March 2025, Guterres reappointed Holguín to the role in May 2025 and asked her to resume contacts with the parties and advise him on the way forward.
Since then, Holguín has brought the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Tufan Erhürman, and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulidis together for joint talks. She has also held contacts outside the island in Ankara, Athens and Brussels. Türkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan last received Holguín in Ankara on June 15, 2026.
