An exhibition featuring 53 photographs from the early Republican period, titled "The Legacy of the Past, the Light of the Future: Photographs from the Early Republican Period," has opened at the Zemin Art Gallery at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University’s Itri Campus.
The opening ribbon was cut by Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Rector Prof. Dr. Naci Bostancı, Oğuz Enis Peru, Atatürk Cultural Center President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeki Eraslan and faculty members. Participants received information about the exhibition from curator Elçin Şahal Oskay.
“We must look at the legacy of the past”
Prof. Dr. Naci Bostancı said universities should take the legacy of the past into account while continuing their educational and teaching activities. Bostancı said it was necessary to reflect on the conditions in which the past would be assessed and the circumstances under which the country was founded while looking toward the future.
Stating that knowing the past is important for understanding responsibilities toward the future, Bostancı said the lessons drawn from the past would help determine the path to follow.
The photographs reflect the atmosphere of the period
Bostancı said photographs are powerful means of expression that reflect the atmosphere of the past and the emotional world of the people who lived during that period. He said a photograph offers an opportunity to see the atmosphere of approximately 100 years ago, the gazes of the people in the image and their feelings about the future.
Thanking those who contributed to preparing the exhibition, Bostancı said a strong archive and institutional support had been used in the photograph selection process.
The “The Legacy of the Past, the Light of the Future” exhibition will be open to visitors for one week.
