ASELSAN chief Ahmet Akyol made important remarks to the international defense publication Naval News at the Euronaval Naval Defense Exhibition in Paris. Drawing attention to the changing threat environment at sea, Akyol said, "Threats no longer target only military assets. Civilian assets are also coming under attack. As ASELSAN, we have focused on this change. We are investing heavily in defense against UAVs."
Akyol said that, in this context, ASELSAN is developing the containerized GÖKSUR and GÖKDENİZ air defense systems and has also updated the SMASH 30 remote-controlled weapon system against UAVs. "These three products have been completely renewed in response to new threats," Akyol said, adding that the company is developing fully autonomous kamikaze unmanned maritime vehicles for use both underwater and on the surface.
In a video published by Naval News, Akyol answers questions at ASELSAN's stand at Euronaval. The footage shows models of systems that can be deployed on commercial ships, sensor and weapon systems used against UAV threats, and the unmanned maritime vehicle ASELSAN brought to the exhibition. Akyol explains that the systems are designed to protect both military and civilian maritime assets.
Containerized air defense
Containerized solutions are intended to enable air defense systems to be rapidly integrated into different ships and platforms inside standard containers. ASELSAN's GÖKSUR naval air defense system successfully destroyed a target traveling close to the sea surface during its first live-fire test in October 2025. GÖKDENİZ is known as a 35-millimeter close-in air defense system used on ships in the inventory of the Turkish Naval Forces.
SMASH 30 is a 30-millimeter remote-controlled stabilized weapon system developed against asymmetric threats such as unmanned aerial vehicles and small fast boats. According to Akyol's remarks, the system was reconfigured in response to the changing UAV threat.
Autonomous kamikaze maritime vehicles
One of Akyol's notable announcements concerned fully autonomous kamikaze unmanned maritime vehicles capable of operating on the surface and underwater. In recent years, ASELSAN has accelerated its work on unmanned maritime vehicles and showcased autonomous underwater vehicles and unmanned maritime platforms at international exhibitions.
Euronaval is considered one of Europe's most important naval defense exhibitions. At the exhibition, ASELSAN presented its range of naval defense products to international participants.
