Turkish retailers’ physical-store presence in Russia appears to have declined in recent years. When the war began, 32 Turkish brands were operating 655 stores in Russia, but that figure later began to fall.
In 2026, Madame Coco, Chakra, NetWork, OXXO, Beymen Club, Karaca Home and Les Benjamins either exited the Russian market or decided to close all their stores. Mudo completed its withdrawal in 2025, while Ipekyol and Twist closed their stores in 2023 after operating in the country for one year.
These developments suggest that at least 10 Turkish brands have withdrawn or decided to withdraw from Russia’s physical retail sector over the past four years. A study covering the first half of 2026 indicated that Turkish brands accounted for 15% of the 39 brands that reduced their store counts, exited physical retail or faced serious financial difficulties.
Factors accelerating the retreat included rising operating expenses and tax burdens, weakening consumer demand, declining shopping mall traffic, high rents and financing costs, low brand awareness and the rise of marketplaces. During the same period, shopping mall traffic in Russia fell by 2%, while visits to clothing and footwear stores declined by 5%.
