Necmeddin Bilal Erdoğan, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the İlim Yayma Foundation, spoke at the İletişim Buluşmaları program held at the Fatih Municipality Çatladıkapı Social Facilities.
Speaking at the event hosted by the İletişim Platformu under the title “Civil Society Organizations’ Vision for the Future and Communication with Society in Türkiye,” Erdoğan said civil society organizations should have sustainable and institutional structures.
Erdoğan said conservative civil society organizations in Türkiye have been able to come together around the same table and implement joint projects. He said civil society should become more international and increase its influence globally.
Erdoğan said efforts should be carried out to support women in establishing and organizing civil society organizations, emphasizing that it was also important to bring younger people into the leadership of these organizations.
Erdoğan said civil society organizations had weak communication capabilities and called for communication tools to be used more effectively so that people who receive services and assistance could support these organizations through social media.
Erdoğan said journalism continues both on social media and in traditional media, noting that young people mostly follow the news on social media but turn to traditional media for more vital issues. He said talented young people should be encouraged in this field.
Erdoğan also said hardworking people should be appreciated, adding: “The number of hardworking people increases in a society where hard work is appreciated.”
Criticism of arguments on social media
Erdoğan criticized some clerics for engaging in arguments with one another online. He argued that these individuals had turned into social media influencers and said such arguments benefited no one.
Erdoğan said young people need individuals who explain how to become better people and Muslims, rather than an environment in which Muslim clerics use harsh language against one another. He said good examples should be multiplied.
Erdoğan also said people should not declare one another unbelievers or target one another harshly because of their shortcomings. He said people should strive for perfection rather than expect to be perfect.
