According to the Drone Proliferation Dataset of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), Türkiye overtook China in 2021 to become the world’s largest supplier of military drones.

Of the 69 armed drone sales made by the US, China and Türkiye to 40 countries since 2018, Türkiye accounted for 65%, China for 26% and the US for just 8%. Chinese armed drone sales peaked in 2014.

The dataset, which covers military drone transfers from 1995 to September 2023, attributes Türkiye’s rapid rise to the battlefield performance of Turkish drones in Libya, Karabakh and Ukraine.
