Socialist International expressed deep concern over the latest judicial decision regarding the CHP leadership. The institution, chaired by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, evaluated the appellate court's decision in Turkey to invalidate Özgür Özel's election as CHP Chairman and all decisions made at recent party congresses as an unlawful step. The statement noted that this situation is part of constitutional pressure and political persecution against political rivals in Turkey. According to legal experts, the authority in intra-party elections lies solely with the Supreme Election Council, and civil courts do not have such authority. It was also reminded that the Supreme Election Council approved Özgür Özel's election. The removal of Özgür Özel by this method and the attempt to reinstate the previous party administration were described as a blow to Turkey's democratic system. Socialist International expressed full solidarity with Özgür Özel and the elected management of the CHP.
