President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a joint press conference with President Ilham Aliyev in Azerbaijan’s city of Shusha, where he traveled for November 8 Victory Day. Erdoğan and his wife, Emine Erdoğan, were welcomed by Aliyev and his wife, Mehriban Aliyeva, at Fuzuli International Airport before being officially received in Shusha.
Erdoğan said relations between the two countries had reached their current advanced level after passing through various tests of history. "Our brotherhood goes far beyond a shared language, history and culture. That is why we regard Baku’s joy as Ankara’s joy and Shusha’s pride as the pride of our entire nation," he said.
Referring to the declaration signed in Shusha on June 15, 2021, Erdoğan said: "Those who seek to weaken this brotherhood, which we have strengthened through our alliance, will never achieve their aims today or tomorrow, just as they failed to do so yesterday."
Erdoğan said Azerbaijan had opened the door to a new era in the South Caucasus through its 44-day Patriotic War, adding that the task now was to crown this victory with lasting peace and stability. He also announced that the Türkiye-Azerbaijan International Forestry Training Center and Nursery facility had begun operating in Jabrayil and that construction had started on a 40-classroom school in Aghdam.

Aliyev recalled the support he received from Erdoğan in the first hours of the war and said: "Your historic words, ‘Azerbaijan is not alone; Türkiye stands with it,’ will never be forgotten." Aliyev said Türkiye had become a major power under Erdoğan’s leadership and added: "Our unity and brotherhood are unshakable. Those who seek to shake them will never achieve their aims."
Erdoğan concluded his remarks with lines from Azerbaijani poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzade: "Our every state is one, our joy and sorrow are one, our crescent is on the flags, Azerbaijan and Türkiye."
The video shows Erdoğan reciting lines from Azerbaijani poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzade’s poem, "Our every state is one," alongside Aliyev during the joint press conference in Shusha. At the end of the footage, delegations from the two countries in the hall can be seen applauding Erdoğan. Erdoğan also congratulated Azerbaijan on November 9 State Flag Day and thanked Aliyev for his warm hospitality.
