European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said that the full implementation of the Hamas disarmament plan in Gaza would be a constructive step toward peace.
In a statement on X, Kallas said she welcomed the agreement brokered by the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye.
Pointing out that many conditions must be met for the plan to be implemented, Kallas said, "The full implementation of the Hamas disarmament plan will be a constructive step on the path to peace."
Stressing that success depends on the full commitment of all parties, Kallas said, "Verifying Hamas's compliance with the terms of the agreement will pose a serious challenge. Ultimately, Israel will also need to withdraw its troops from Gaza."
Noting that the EU stands ready to support the next steps, Kallas added that EU missions on the ground play an important role in supporting efforts to build a Palestinian state.
