For many people, an unforgettable dinner is not limited to what is served on the plate. The atmosphere, architecture, and design also stand out as elements that shape the experience.
Based on this approach, Prix Versailles honored 16 restaurants with striking interiors and strong kitchens on the 2026 World's Most Beautiful Restaurants list.
Five restaurants from Europe on the list
The selection featured a wide range where carefully restored historic buildings and bold contemporary spaces stood side by side. Five restaurants from Europe were included in the list.
Jérôme Gouadain, the general secretary of the award organization, said these venues have decors that work in harmony with their surroundings and menus. Gouadain expressed that the restaurants on the list are enriched with different styles and colors.
A Paris-inspired cocktail spot in Vienna
Le Fou is located inside The Leo Grand boutique hotel in Vienna. Serving as a cocktail bar and restaurant, the venue's interconnected and carefully designed spaces evoke the sparkle and mystery of Paris nightlife.
Designed by founder Alexander Schrack and interior architect Theresa Obermoser, the venue combines silk-covered walls, velvet upholstery, natural stone, and aged metal. Rust and terracotta tones along with gold and leopard-patterned details stand out in different rooms.
When daylight fades, dim lighting and cozy corners make Le Fou one of Vienna's prominent cocktail and dining destinations.
A modern interpretation of the Alps in Gstaad
Monti, located in the Gstaad region of Switzerland, is inside The Alpina Gstaad hotel. The venue reinterprets Alpine design in a modern style.
Architect Jakob Sprenger and creative director Antonia Crespí created an atmosphere that does not rely on chalet clichés. Two-hundred-year-old wood from local farmhouses, elm furniture, bronze separators, and mohair-covered sofas add warmth to the venue.
The large terrace overlooks the surrounding glaciers. Chef Martin Göschel preparing some dishes at the table makes the experience more personal.
Balance of preservation and renewal in Helsinki
Finlandia Bistro is located inside the iconic Finlandia Hall in Helsinki. The restaurant was cited as an example of how heritage and contemporary design can coexist.
Fyra, responsible for the renovation of the building standing since 1971, balanced preservation with modern intervention. Original furniture designed by Alvar Aalto was used alongside custom contemporary pieces.
Thus, the venue transformed into a warm and inviting restaurant instead of giving a cold museum-like atmosphere. The restaurant was presented as a natural extension of the cultural life ongoing at Finlandia Hall.
Old-school grandeur in London
Carbone's first branch in Europe opened in London's Mayfair district. The restaurant is located in the former American Embassy building.
The venue carries the spirit of a classic 1950s supper club and combines Italian-American nostalgia with a showy sense of luxury. Designer Ken Fulk enriched the space with velvet sofas, polished woods, mosaics, and contemporary artworks.
The hand-painted wall mural extends along the staircase, guiding guests to the bar, lounge, and main dining room. A hidden private dining room is also among the venue's notable features.
A soft interpretation of the Riviera in Monaco
Marlow, in Monaco's new Mareterra district, brings a more characterful and softer approach to Riviera luxury. The venue was designed by artist and architect Hugo Toro.
The restaurant was designed like the home of a fictional British character inspired by the arrival of the English to the Côte d’Azur in the mid-18th century. Wood panels, vintage-inspired furniture, and a centrally located bar give the venue a private club feel.
In the kitchen, chef Sébastien Blin reinterprets British classics with Mediterranean touches. The resulting picture offers a refined yet relaxed option against Monaco's more ostentatious face.
Other restaurants on the 2026 list
The 16-restaurant list announced by Prix Versailles also included Nobu One Za’abeel, Akira Back, Hana no Kumo, Monsieur Dior by Anne-Sophie Pic, Peridot, Escā Playa, Rosso, Lucia, Monsieur Dior by Dominique Crenn, Mottai, and Amura by Ángel León.
The restaurants on the list spread across Dubai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Ras El Hekma, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Coral Gables, Cape Town, and other cities. The selection once again demonstrated how architecture and gastronomy can create striking spaces together.
