Fenerbahçe were beaten 6-0 away to Aston Villa in their 15th official match of the season. The English side went into half-time 3-0 ahead at Villa Park and scored three more goals after the break to secure a resounding victory.
Aston Villa score three goals in the first half
The home side took the lead in the 12th minute through Manzambi. Following a corner, Manzambi's shot in the penalty area took a deflection off the defence and found the net.
Fenerbahçe came close to scoring through Muric's header from İrfan Can Kahveci's cross in the 15th minute, and again in the 17th minute when Muric was through one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Aston Villa goalkeeper Suzuki denied both efforts.
The English side doubled their lead through Jackson in the 31st minute. After a turnover in midfield, Jackson received Kamara's pass, went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and found the net. Oğuz Aydın's shot came back off the crossbar in the 34th minute.
Jackson struck again in the 39th minute. After İsmail Yüksek lost possession, Jackson collected the ball in the right-hand corner of the penalty area and sent a low shot into the far corner to make it 3-0 at half-time.

Barkley and Abraham complete the scoring
Fenerbahçe started the second half more effectively and enjoyed more possession in the opposition half, but failed to convert their chances. Aston Villa's McGinn also tested goalkeeper Ederson with a shot from outside the penalty area, which was saved.
Manzambi went down in the penalty area in the 67th minute after a challenge from İsmail Yüksek. Referee Ivan Kruzliak awarded a penalty. Barkley took it in the 68th minute and sent the ball into the corner of the net.
Barkley scored his second and Aston Villa's fifth goal in the 72nd minute. Receiving Mbaye's pass on the edge of the penalty area, Barkley's first-time shot took a deflection off Bartuğ Elmaz and wrong-footed goalkeeper Ederson.
Suzuki turned Oğuz Aydın's powerful shot in the 85th minute around the post for a corner. Aston Villa completed the scoring in the 90th minute when Abraham met McGinn's pass at the far post and found the net to make it 6-0.
Fenerbahçe supporters call for İsmail Kartal to resign
As the deficit grew, Fenerbahçe supporters called for head coach İsmail Kartal to resign in the 78th minute. Kartal made three substitutions in the 69th minute after Aston Villa's fourth goal, bringing on Nene for Greenwood, Lukaku for Muric and Bartuğ Elmaz for İsmail Yüksek.

Before the Aston Villa match, Fenerbahçe had conceded no more than two goals in any of their previous 14 official matches. The yellow-and-navy side conceded six goals in this match and suffered a heavy European defeat for the first time in nearly three years.
Fenerbahçe lost 6-1 to Nordsjaelland under İsmail Kartal on November 30, 2023. The 6-0 result against Aston Villa became the team's heaviest European defeat since that match.
Fourth defeat against Aston Villa
Fenerbahçe suffered defeat in their fourth meeting with Aston Villa. In the teams' UEFA Cup tie during the 1977-1978 season, Aston Villa won 4-0 at home and 2-0 in the return leg in Istanbul.
The teams also met in the UEFA Europa League last season, when Aston Villa won 1-0 at Kadıköy. With their 6-0 victory in the fourth match, the English side won all four of their meetings with Fenerbahçe.
İsmail Kartal: This is not an acceptable situation
Fenerbahçe head coach İsmail Kartal said after the match that his team made too many passing errors and that such mistakes are punished quickly at the highest level.

Kartal said: "Looking at the score, we do not think we deserved this much. We never imagined suffering such a defeat. This is not an acceptable situation; we apologise to our entire community."
Pointing out that they will play a league match three days later, Kartal said they needed to put the Aston Villa match behind them and focus on the Alanyaspor game and their Champions League matches. Kartal said they had planned to bring Kante on to gain control of midfield, but the player did not feel 100 percent ready, so they made the change involving Bartuğ Elmaz instead.
Unai Emery: Fenerbahçe did not deserve to lose 6-0
Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery said he was happy that his team had secured their first home victory. Emery said they wanted to see the performances of different players and continue the team's development.
Emery said Aston Villa scored in different ways through high pressing and transition play. Noting that Fenerbahçe also created scoring chances, Emery said: "Fenerbahçe did not deserve to lose 6-0. They could have scored some goals. We achieved the result, but the truth is that they suffered a result they did not deserve."
