Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called for strong support for the rights of the Palestinian people at the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
Representing Türkiye at the summit on behalf of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Fidan said a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue required the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Fidan said, "We must firmly support the rights of Palestine, a member of the conference, and stand against ongoing pressure and grave violations."
Four priorities for cooperation in Asia
Fidan supported extending Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the conference. He welcomed Laos joining the conference as its 29th member and congratulated the new Secretary-General, Sultan Hajiyev.
Pointing to Asia's growing global role, Fidan said the conference needed to be strengthened to promote peace and prosperity. He said Türkiye aimed to contribute to the organization becoming a more inclusive forum for security issues in Asia.
Fidan outlined four priorities in this context. They were developing the Middle Corridor, also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route; implementing the Development Road Project; strengthening cooperation among regional organizations; and expanding cooperation in digital technologies, artificial intelligence and innovation.
Fidan said the Middle Corridor would increase the effectiveness of China's Belt and Road Initiative, facilitate trade between Asia and Europe, and strengthen connections among peoples. He added that the Development Road Project would connect the Gulf countries to Europe through Iraq and Türkiye.
Fidan said coordination between the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia and the Organization of Turkic States, the Economic Cooperation Organization, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation would strengthen transportation and economic connectivity across the continent.

Artificial intelligence and the climate agenda
Fidan stressed that artificial intelligence should serve as a foundation for inclusive cooperation rather than conflict or monopolization, saying deeper cooperation was needed in science, technology and innovation. He said new technologies should be used for the benefit of people in Asia and beyond.
Fidan also recalled that Türkiye would host and chair the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP31 in Antalya in November. Saying the conference should provide an opportunity to advance climate justice, sustainable development and people-centered transformations, he called for high-level participation by relevant parties in the leaders' summit.
Emphasis on Palestine
Fidan said the search for collective solutions to common problems had become more urgent as crises and uncertainty increased around the world. He said the greatest obstacle to multilateral cooperation was the lack of trust among international actors.
Fidan said dialogue needed to be advanced and mutual trust strengthened on the basis of regional responsibility to overcome this problem. He said the conference could play an important role in turning dialogue into effective cooperation. He added that Türkiye would continue supporting the conference's transformation into a fully fledged international structure.
Addressing the Palestinian issue, Fidan said commitment to peace and mutual trust should apply to all members of the conference. He said that although Israel was a member of the conference, it pursued a policy of systematic pressure against the Palestinian people and violated their fundamental rights, adding that this commitment could not be upheld while the situation continued.
Fidan said the summit should establish a clear road map for strengthening the conference with the aim of advancing lasting peace and prosperity across Asia. He said Türkiye would continue working to achieve these goals.
