Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the Turkish House in New York. According to Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry, the two discussed relations between Türkiye and Iran as well as the latest regional and global developments.
Fidan is continuing his contacts in New York during the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly. On the same day, he also received El Salvador’s Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill Tinoco and Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir at the Turkish House.
The meeting came as Araghchi presented a plan to the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within a week, conditional on commitments from the Islamabad memorandum. “The choice now rests with the United States,” Araghchi said.
