FIFA President Gianni Infantino claimed he has the support of the vast majority of world football ahead of the presidential election scheduled for March 2027.
Infantino, who was in Azerbaijan for the Under-15 World Cup, laughed off a question from the BBC about whether he was considering resigning after the FIFA Forward Enterprise project.
Infantino emphasizes support from 211 federations
Infantino said it was not always easy to bring different views together under one roof, adding that disagreements and differing opinions were not a problem. He said the parties should be able to continue on their way after their differences.
Asked whether he was considering stepping down amid increasing calls for his resignation, Infantino replied: "You know, I was elected by 211 member federations from around the world."
Infantino said he had received the full backing of the Asian Football Confederation, adding that he had just returned from Tokyo and that the AFC fully supported him. He also said he had been in Cabo Verde and had the support of all African countries.
The FIFA president emphasized that he respected all views and said the member federations would decide who becomes president and how FIFA is governed.

Message on more frequent dialogue with UEFA
Infantino said more frequent dialogue was needed to repair the strained relationship between FIFA and UEFA.
Infantino did not give a clear answer when asked when the documents requested by UEFA would be submitted. He said the documents were subject to a legal process and that they were working on the matter.
UEFA had requested that critical documents related to the FIFA Forward Enterprise project be shared by November 2. UEFA Secretary General Theodore Theodoridis had also said that FIFA had left a number of fundamental questions unanswered.
Election timetable
The application period for candidates seeking to challenge Infantino in the March 2027 election will end on November 18. Gianni Infantino has served as FIFA president since 2016.
