China's official news agency Xinhua reported, citing local authorities, that heavy rainfall caused floods in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the south of the country.
The report stated that 39 people died in the floods and 9 are missing, with some deaths linked to a crack that occurred in the Liulan Dam in Nanning.
After the damage to the dam, hundreds were evacuated from the area. Social media footage showed agricultural lands and telephone poles submerged, and some residents waiting for help on rooftops.
