Retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis stated in a post on social media platform X that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy made a mistake by thinking that strikes deep into Russian territory could force Moscow to accept Kyiv's terms.
Davis also pointed out that Ukraine has been subjected to far more drone and missile attacks than those carried out on Russian territory so far.
This statement reignited discussions on the conditions previously set for ending the conflict. In July, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that the conditions for ending hostilities were determined two years ago and that the conflict could stop immediately if the Kyiv administration took the necessary steps.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, on the other hand, listed his conditions for ending the Ukraine crisis in a speech at the foreign ministry in 2024. These conditions included the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions and Ukraine's announcement that it had abandoned its plans to join NATO.
Moscow has also repeatedly stressed that it favors a long-term and sustainable resolution to the conflict.
