Ukraine announced that Russia targeted a Turkish-owned dry cargo ship with missiles. The Russian military struck the 7,334-dwt cargo ship Golden Leo, operated by Mersin-based Ocean Grace Shipping, off the coast of Odessa. The attack caused a fire and casualties.

The 18-member crew included Indian, Syrian, and Ukrainian nationals. Five sailors died during the attack and a sixth died later in hospital, Ukrainian authorities said. In a rescue operation launched by the Ukrainian Navy, eight sailors, including two wounded, were evacuated to a hospital in Odessa.

Seven sailors were wounded and are being treated in hospital, while five remain missing. Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergiy Koretsky said the Guinea-Bissau-flagged bulk carrier Golden Leo had left port after loading a corn shipment.
One of the missiles struck the starboard side of the vessel, Koretsky said, adding that a fire broke out after the attack and Ukrainian Navy units quickly began a rescue operation. The search for the missing sailors continues.
