Galatasaray will face Gençlerbirliği tomorrow in the eighth week of the Süper Lig. The match at Eryaman Stadium will kick off at 4 p.m., with referee Reşat Onur Coşkunses in charge.
Galatasaray will take the field as league leaders
The yellow-and-red side have collected 16 points from seven league matches, recording five wins, one draw and one defeat. Galatasaray have scored 16 goals in those matches and conceded 11.
Gençlerbirliği, who have recorded two wins, two draws and three defeats in the first seven weeks, sit 13th with eight points.
Galatasaray have three absentees
Lucas Torreira and Lesley Ugochukwu will miss the match against Gençlerbirliği due to red-card suspensions. Wilfried Singo, who is injured, is also unlikely to feature.
Okan Buruk returns to the bench after suspension
Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk will return to the bench for the Gençlerbirliği match after completing his suspension. Buruk had been banned for one official match by the Professional Football Disciplinary Board for unsporting conduct toward the referee during the team’s sixth-week match against Trabzonspor.

The experienced coach completed his suspension during the seventh-week match against Kasımpaşa. Buruk is also aiming to record his 150th victory in charge of Galatasaray.
Buruk targets two separate 150th milestones
Buruk took charge of Galatasaray during the 2022-2023 season and has recorded 149 wins, 29 draws and 34 defeats in 212 matches across all competitions as the team’s head coach. These figures do not include the 3-0 victories awarded against Gaziantep FK and Hatayspor, who were affected by the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023, and withdrew from the Süper Lig during the 2022-2023 season.
Buruk will make his 150th Süper Lig appearance in charge of Galatasaray against Gençlerbirliği. Under Buruk, Galatasaray have recorded 118 wins, 18 draws and 13 defeats in 149 league matches, scoring 353 goals and conceding 125.
The 3-0 victories awarded against Gaziantep FK and Hatayspor were also excluded from Buruk’s 149-match league record.
Galatasaray seek a response after Barcelona defeat
Galatasaray lost 4-1 to Barcelona at home in the UEFA Champions League during the week. The yellow-and-red side want to maintain their league lead by defeating Gençlerbirliği.

Gençlerbirliği have gone five matches without a win
Gençlerbirliği began the season with wins over Fenerbahçe and Göztepe but failed to win their next five matches. After drawing with Erzurumspor FK in the third week, the red-and-black side lost to Trabzonspor, Kasımpaşa and İstanbul Başakşehir.
Gençlerbirliği ended a three-match losing streak by drawing 2-2 with Amed Sportif Faaliyetler after the international break. The club parted ways with head coach Metin Diyadin by mutual consent on October 6 and reached an agreement with German coach Bernd Storck.
Storck took his place on the bench for the Amed Sportif Faaliyetler match 24 hours after taking charge and earned a point in his first game at the helm of Gençlerbirliği.
Gençlerbirliği’s last league win over Galatasaray came in 2018
Gençlerbirliği recorded their last Süper Lig win over Galatasaray in Ankara on April 9, 2018. The capital club won 1-0 with a goal from Alper Uludağ and were relegated from the Süper Lig at the end of the same season.
After returning to the Süper Lig, Gençlerbirliği drew 0-0 with Galatasaray in Ankara on October 5, 2019, but then lost their next five league matches against their opponents. The red-and-black side eliminated Galatasaray from the Ziraat Türkiye Cup last season by defeating them 2-0 in the quarterfinals.
