Gaziantep Metropolitan Mayor Fatma Şahin and Palestine’s Ambassador to Ankara, Nasri Abu Ceysh, signed a sister-city protocol between the Gaziantep and Gaza municipalities. The protocol was signed at a ceremony attended by Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş.
Kurtulmuş: Gaza will usher in a new era

Speaking at the ceremony, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş assessed developments in Gaza in the context of the war and genocide carried out by Israel. Kurtulmuş said Gaza was the final scene of a bloody process and had been subjected to one of the largest massacres in modern history.
Kurtulmuş expressed hope that Gaza would enter a new era following this process, becoming free and paving the way for Palestine to gain independence. He said the Gaza issue was not limited to events since 2023 but had historical roots.
Responding to chants of “Free Palestine from the river to the sea” in the hall, Kurtulmuş said they wanted a fully independent and sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. He argued that the resistance in Gaza would become one of the turning points in human history.
He addressed the protest at the UN General Assembly

Kurtulmuş also recalled that some members left the hall during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech at the UN General Assembly last September. He said the scene reflected the conscience of humanity despite the forces supporting Israel.
Kurtulmuş said the Israeli administration must be held accountable internationally and tried before international courts for the crimes he said had been committed in Gaza. He also sent his greetings to the Palestinian people and to the leaders of the Palestinian struggle, including Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar.
Şahin: Sister-city protocol is a historic step
Fatma Şahin said the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality stood with Gaza. She described the sister-city protocol as a historic step demonstrating Türkiye’s stance in favor of the just and the oppressed.
Nasri Abu Ceysh thanked Türkiye for its ongoing humanitarian aid. Abu Ceysh said Gaza would rise again and become a city of hope, adding that the protocol signed with Gaziantep was one of the important indications of efforts to build the city’s future.
More than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, more than 175,000 have been injured, and approximately 90 percent of the infrastructure has been destroyed.
