Kartal: We deserved three points
Fenerbahçe head coach İsmail Kartal said after the match that they had come to win three points but had failed to do so. Kartal said his team played better, particularly in the second half, and took complete control of the game.
Kartal also criticized the pitch on which the match was played, saying that the players had told him they would struggle to pass during the warm-up. The Fenerbahçe head coach said the team was disappointed not to score.
Responding to a question about the difference between the team's performances in the Champions League and the league, Kartal said opponents defended more deeply in league matches and that the pitch also affected the game. Kartal also argued that there was an eight-point gap in the league and that penalties had not been awarded in the opening match and against Beşiktaş; he added that the referee had given three minutes of added time in this match.
Orhan Ak: One point is worth its weight in gold
Gaziantep FK head coach Orhan Ak said that earning a point against a strong opponent was worth its weight in gold for his team. Ak said his team brought the playing standard and team spirit it had carried over from last week onto the pitch in the first half.
Ak noted that Fenerbahçe had shots come back off the posts and said the second half could have unfolded differently if Gaziantep FK had converted its chances. Saying that his team fought with the support of the fans, Ak congratulated his players.
Ak said every match in the league was difficult and that the team spirit and group energy needed to be maintained. The Gaziantep FK head coach announced that they would begin preparing for their next match against Kocaelispor.
Memik Yılmaz: One point is very valuable
Gaziantep FK president Memik Yılmaz also said that the point earned against Fenerbahçe was valuable. Congratulating both teams, Yılmaz said they were trying to build a team worthy of Gaziantep.
Yılmaz said they aimed to achieve a great deal with a limited budget and that the squad included two or three players over the age of 30, while the other footballers were under 25. Yılmaz said the team could also have beaten Fenerbahçe, but that results can change in football.
