Yusuf Arıkan, Türkiye’s Consul General in Hannover, attended the opening of the 3rd International German-Turkish Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Association Symposium, held in Bremen on November 6-7.
The consulate said in Turkish and German that the symposium brought together academics and doctors specializing in their fields from Germany and Türkiye. The consulate emphasized that the symposium represented another example of cooperation between the two countries, this time in the medical field. The German-language statement also said the symposium once again demonstrated the importance of German-Turkish cooperation by bringing together prominent scientists and specialist doctors from Germany and Türkiye.

Under Senator Ünsal’s patronage
The symposium was held under the patronage of Özlem Ünsal, Bremen State Senator for Construction, Transport and Urban Development. Ünsal was among those who spoke at the opening. Born in Kırıkkale in 1974, she grew up in Lübeck. The SPD politician had served as a member of the Schleswig-Holstein State Parliament before joining the Bremen Senate in 2023.
The consulate thanked Ünsal for her patronage, as well as Prof. Dr. Ercole Di Martino, president of the German-Turkish ENT Association, Prof. Dr. Cem Uzun, Thomas Kruse, managing director of Bremen DIAKO Hospital, and the doctors and academics from Türkiye and Germany who attended the symposium.

“Welcome” in three languages
In the hall where the opening took place, the message “Welcome to Bremen” appeared in English, Turkish and German beneath the logo of the German-Turkish ENT Association (DTG-HNO), which organized the symposium. A Turkish flag stood on one side of the stage and a German flag on the other, while the symposium logo appeared on the banners alongside the DIAKO hospital logo. DIAKO, whose managing director was thanked, is the short name of Bremen’s Evangelical Diakonie Hospital (Evangelisches Diakonie-Krankenhaus).
The association, whose German name is Deutsch-Türkische HNO-Gesellschaft, brings German and Turkish ear, nose and throat specialists together under one organization and aims to promote scientific exchange between the two countries. This year’s gathering was the third in the association’s international symposium series. The state of Bremen, together with Lower Saxony, falls within the jurisdiction of Türkiye’s Consulate General in Hannover.
