Gold prices fell on Wednesday. Spot gold was trading at $4,125 an ounce as of 11:00 a.m., down 1.2%.
The rise in the dollar index and U.S. Treasury yields weighed on gold prices. The dollar index rose 0.4%, making dollar-priced gold more expensive for investors using other currencies.
Expectations for the Fed’s decision are being monitored
Investors are looking for indications in the minutes of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s September meeting regarding the extent to which policymakers supported continuing to raise interest rates.
Market expectations indicate that the Federal Reserve may leave interest rates unchanged at its next meeting. However, the possibility of an interest-rate hike in December remains on the agenda.
Rising interest rates and bond yields generally reduce the appeal of gold, which does not generate interest income, for investors.

Central banks continue buying
Despite the decline in gold prices, geopolitical tensions, inflation concerns, rising public debt and continued gold purchases by central banks are among the factors supporting prices.
Official data showed that the People’s Bank of China continued buying gold in September, marking its 23rd consecutive month of purchases.
Other precious metals also declined
Other precious metals also declined. Spot silver fell 2.2% to $60.36 an ounce, platinum dropped 3% to approximately $1,650.45 an ounce, and palladium decreased 2.7% to $1,140.89 an ounce.
In global markets, attention is focused on rising oil prices and U.S. Treasury yields, as well as concerns over the impact of energy costs on inflation and U.S. monetary policy. Military tensions in the Middle East and the U.S.-Iran war are also among the factors increasing market volatility.
