Abdullah Güler, chair of the AK Party Parliamentary Group, said regarding the Terror-Free Türkiye process, "Our goal is to completely dismantle the PKK and KCK structures and eliminate their weapons and camps."
Güler said, "We aim to establish a security environment in which weapons and violence will never again be discussed on these lands."
"Our $2 trillion was wasted"
Güler delivered the opening lecture at the Academic Year Opening Ceremony and the "First Lesson: Terror-Free Türkiye" program held at Sivas University of Science and Technology. He said the 50-year terrorism problem had caused deep suffering, particularly in Sivas and the surrounding provinces, and that there were families of fallen soldiers and veterans in nearly every district.
Güler said experts estimate that the economic cost of terrorism has reached approximately $2 trillion to date. "While our country's resources should have been spent on education, health care, infrastructure, transportation and the defense industry, unfortunately, $2 trillion was wasted because of the tense environment and problems created by terrorism," he said.
Güler said these resources could have funded hundreds of highways and high-speed rail lines, as well as dams, airports, ports, thousands of hospitals and tens of thousands of schools.

"We are determined on this issue"
Güler said initiatives undertaken in the 1990s and 2000s had failed because of external interventions. "But now, under the leadership of our President and with the strong contribution of our Parliament, we are determined on this issue. God willing, we will achieve results," he said.
Güler recalled that the bill introduced on August 5, 2026, was adopted by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye with the votes of 467 lawmakers and that the regulation had entered into force. Güler said the committee chaired by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz had informed all institutions, adding that the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Interior, the military and the gendarmerie were making significant efforts.
