Manchester City has started to evaluate legal options following the remarks of the Real Madrid presidential candidate about Erling Haaland. The candidate's statement that he would add the Norwegian star to the squad if he wins the election sparked controversy.
The candidate claimed on a television program that Haaland has a release clause and wants to go to Real Madrid. He then showed a Madrid jersey with Haaland 9 on it.
However, Haaland's side quickly denied this statement. The club emphasized that the news coming from Spain is not true, that there is no such possibility, and that there is no clause in the contract allowing this.
Manchester City also closed the door on claims about the player's future. The club reminded that Haaland's current contract binds him to City until 2034.
The club spokesman raised the possibility of legal action regarding the use of Haaland's image in this context. The spokesman said the narrative presented does not reflect the truth.
The same candidate also claimed that Rodri would go to Santiago Bernabeu if he wins the election. The Spanish midfielder's contract ends at the end of next season.
Manchester City's stance on Rodri has not changed. The club had clearly stated before that there is no plan to sell him this summer.
The candidate had previously made notable promises during the election campaign. He announced that former Real Madrid players Raul and Fernando Hierro would also be part of his team.
Meanwhile, current president Florentino Perez, who has been in office since 2000, is again considered the favorite. The candidate also announced on the same night that Jose Mourinho would become the coach if he is elected.
With this statement, it was noted that Ibrahima Konate could come as a free agent when his contract ends, and Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan is also among the possible transfers.
