In Adana's Havuzlubahçe Neighborhood, the street, which has allegedly not been paved for months following infrastructure works, came to the agenda this time due to dust. In the neighborhood where the intense dust rising from the road covered houses and workplaces due to the hot weather, some residents laid old carpets from their homes at various points on the street.
Neighborhood residents say the carpets were laid on the street to somewhat prevent the dust. They state that their aim is to make their reactions visible and to accelerate the construction of the road.
Shopkeepers and residents united in the same demand
Gülşen Göker, one of the neighborhood residents, said they have been struggling with the same problem for months. Göker stated that even the furniture became invisible due to dust, so they laid carpets and want the road to be constructed as soon as possible.
Binnaz Cömertpay stated that the dust rising from the road entered inside the houses and expressed that the common demand of the neighborhood people is asphalt.
Aşkın İşgüdar, a shopkeeper from the neighborhood, also claimed that they became unable to work due to the dust. İşgüdar said that although pipes were laid, the surface was not covered, so both the shopkeepers have difficulty working and there is a loss of customers.
It also affected daily life
İşgüdar explained that the dust not only made trade difficult but also family life. The shopkeeper, who said he had to cover his mouth and face while picking up his child from school, stated that a similar problem is experienced not only on the street but also on many side streets.
While the sections covered with old carpets in the neighborhood attract attention, residents are waiting for Seyhan Municipality to construct the road as soon as possible.
