Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum delivered a harsh speech against Washington during the annual evaluation speech held in the capital. Sheinbaum said her administration was targeted by the USA to interfere in Mexico's internal affairs. She claimed that the pressure against them was carried out through social media campaigns, media attacks, bot accounts, and fake accounts. She stated that these initiatives could be aimed at influencing the political balances in Mexico. In her speech, she questioned whether the USA's security demands genuinely aimed to help Mexico. She suggested that this effort might be connected to the 2026 USA elections or the 2027 presidential race in Mexico. The tension reportedly increased after a traffic accident involving US officials in the state of Chihuahua on April 19. Mexican authorities launched an investigation after it was revealed that these individuals conducted unauthorized security activities for the Central Intelligence Agency. Following the investigation, federal authorities summoned officials from Chihuahua for testimony, including state governor Maru Campos. It was also reported that Washington requested extradition for 10 Mexicans during this process. Sheinbaum also defended the presumption of innocence for Sinaloa Governor Ruben Rocha Moya, stating that no evidence had been presented. The constitutional amendment process in Mexico also stands out as a step aimed at strengthening protections against foreign intervention.
