Hundreds of people demonstrated in the capital Athens in support of Palestine and to demand that the Greek government end its military and diplomatic cooperation with Israel.
After gathering at Monastiraki Square on Sunday, the demonstrators marched toward Syntagma Square. The action was organized at the call of the Palestinian community in Greece, the “Stop the War – Solidarity with Palestine” alliance and the “March to Gaza – Greece” initiative, as well as left-wing parties and groups.
During the march, protesters chanted, “Freedom for Palestine” and “Solidarity with Palestine, no to cooperation with Israel.” They called on the Greek government to end its military and diplomatic cooperation with Israel.
Security warning for Israelis
Israel’s Foreign Ministry issued a warning to Israeli citizens in Greece ahead of the demonstrations. The ministry urged citizens to stay away from protest areas, remain vigilant and avoid carrying symbols that could reveal their Israeli or Jewish identities.
