The Independent Art Foundation has begun hosting a new photography exhibition titled "Colors of the Earth" at its center in Fatih. The exhibition features nature, architecture, portrait, and documentary photographs captured by 11 photographers in various geographies of Turkey and the world.
The exhibition presents a broad selection, from Istanbul's historic skyline to wild horses running free on the Anatolian steppes, and from the rhythm of city life to the quiet details of nature, and will welcome art lovers throughout the summer.
Independent Art Foundation President Hülya Yazıcı said that the foundation has been carrying out work bringing together artists from different disciplines since 2008. Noting that they hosted a photographer every month last year, Yazıcı stated that these gatherings helped build a strong bond between photographers and viewers.
Yazıcı said, "We already work across disciplines. We have carried on this work so far without separating any field of art from another, believing that they are all a whole." Noting that the exhibition can be visited throughout the summer, Yazıcı added that in addition to nature and landscape photographs, works focusing on architectural structures are also on display.
Curator Ayşegül Kurt said that the exhibition features works by 11 photographers taken in different geographies of the world, with the most photographs coming from Jerusalem. Stating that the exhibition brings together the different colors of life, Kurt explained that they prepared the project as a continuation of a previous collaboration with the artists.
Photographer Ekrem Kalkan noted that his three works in the exhibition focus on Istanbul cats, the autumn landscape of Bolu's Yedigöller, and whirling dervishes. Kalkan added that with his photograph of the whirling dervishes in particular, he aimed to reflect one of Turkey's important cultural values and a message of universal peace.
In addition to Kalkan, the exhibition features works by Aygül Harmancı, Ayşegül Kurt, Berke Araklı, Ercan Ulu, Esra Kapıcıoğlu, Kadir Tezel, Murat Kurt, Nurşen Coşar, Tayip Başak, and Umut Karahasanoğlu. The "Colors of the Earth" exhibition can be visited at the Independent Art Foundation until August 30.
