Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced that the investigation into the death of former National Intelligence Organization official Kaşif Kozinoğlu, who died at Silivri Prison in 2011, has been reopened.
Gürlek said that cases that have raised questions in the public conscience are being reconsidered regardless of how much time has passed, and that efforts are being made to trace any evidence that can still be recovered.
Kozinoğlu died on November 12, 2011
Kozinoğlu fell ill on November 12, 2011, at Silivri No. 1 L-Type Closed Correctional Institution, where he was being held in custody. He was transferred to Silivri State Hospital and was found to have died upon arrival.
Following the incident, camera footage and medical documents were examined. Statements were taken from correctional facility, gendarmerie and medical personnel, as well as Kozinoğlu's cellmates and his wife. On April 10, 2012, a decision was issued not to prosecute in the investigation.

Legal proceedings initiated against 11 suspects
After the Department of Investigation of Unsolved Crimes reexamined the case, the decision not to prosecute was overturned in line with the assessment of the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and the investigation was reopened.
A confidentiality order was issued in the investigation, and a special team was formed. Legal proceedings were initiated against 11 suspects who were working at the correctional facility at the time of the incident, while 10 suspects were detained.
One suspect was found to be abroad as a fugitive from FETÖ. The investigation is continuing in coordination with the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command and the relevant institutions.
Justice Minister Gürlek announced that efforts are continuing to shed light on all aspects of the incident and, if there are responsible parties, to identify them and bring them to justice.
