Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Majid Ebn al-Reza and Turkey's National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler discussed regional developments, the ceasefire framework, and strengthening defense and security cooperation between the two countries in a phone call.
The Iranian minister said during the call that his country accepted the ceasefire to contribute to regional stability and at the request of friendly and neighboring states. However, stressing that they do not trust the US due to Washington's long record of not abiding by agreements, Ebn al-Reza noted that Iran's Armed Forces are fully prepared to respond proportionally to any violation of the agreement.
Referring to Israel's actions in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran, the Iranian defense minister said that US support has led to the continuation of the Zionist regime's aggressive policies. Calling on Islamic countries for unity and practical coordination, Ebn al-Reza said that joint action is needed against destabilizing regional developments.
Ebn al-Reza reiterated Iran's earlier proposal of a "Security Union of the Islamic World," stating that this union should include countries such as Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. Emphasizing that recent conflicts have shown that regional security can only be ensured by regional states, the minister warned that the presence of foreign forces only increases insecurity and instability.
The Iranian official warned against Israel's plans to create so-called security zones in Syria and Lebanon, saying these steps are moves toward wider regional instability. He also noted that recent US comments about a possible new front against Hezbollah in Lebanon could escalate tensions in the region.
Underscoring that security in the Persian Gulf must be managed by regional countries, Ebn al-Reza said relying on external powers cannot produce lasting stability. He stated that Iran is ready to continue consultations with Turkey and other regional actors to develop sustainable security arrangements.
Turkey's National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler conveyed his condolences for the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, military commanders, civilians, and the school children martyred in Minab. Güler reiterated Ankara's support for the full implementation of the ceasefire and the continuation of diplomatic contacts.
Stressing that regional security can only be achieved through dialogue, cooperation, and regional ownership, Güler said that Turkey supports the territorial integrity of neighboring states and is ready to expand cooperation with Iran on counter-terrorism, border security, and regional issues.
Güler further added that regional cooperation is the only path to lasting peace, and that Ankara supports initiatives for de-escalation, counter-terrorism, and strengthening regional stability.
