Fenerbahçe head coach İsmail Kartal answered questions about Marco Asensio at a press conference after his side beat Corendon Alanyaspor 3-0 at home in week 8 of the Trendyol Süper Lig.
Asked whether there was a problem between him and Asensio, Kartal said: “I have no problem with any player. If there were one, I would do what is necessary, as I have done before.”
“I am a son of this team”
“I am a son of this team. I would do anything for Fenerbahçe,” Kartal said, adding: “We have no problem with Asensio either. Everything will be explained tomorrow.” He said both the club and Asensio would make statements on the matter tomorrow.

Kartal’s remarks came on the same day reports said Asensio would undergo surgery abroad for a knee injury and be sidelined for at least two months. The Spanish player also missed the Alanyaspor match.
“We were better in every way against Aston Villa”
Looking back on the Champions League defeat to Aston Villa, Kartal said: “We were better than our opponent in every way in the Aston Villa match. It was not the result we deserved.” He said his team had been superior in play but failed to score while their opponent did, noted that it was their first loss in the Champions League including the qualifiers, and added: “I wish it hadn’t happened; we upset our community. It is not acceptable.”
“We controlled the game from start to finish”
Assessing the Alanyaspor win, Kartal said: “We were in control of the game from start to finish. Our players carried out what we asked of them to the letter.” Of a goal disallowed after a VAR review, he said: “We don’t understand this.”
Asked whether Mason Greenwood, who has missed two of the three penalties he has taken this season, would keep taking spot kicks, Kartal replied: “We will think about it.” Of İrfan Can Kahveci, he said: “As long as he keeps this up, he will keep playing.”
Kartal said the win was a morale boost ahead of the Slavia Prague match and the Galatasaray derby that follows, adding that they would manage the workload carefully in a busy schedule. Fenerbahçe face Slavia Prague in the Champions League in three days.
