Israeli Democratic Party leader Yair Golan accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of using soldiers as a 'political protective shield' to maintain his power.
In a post on the American X platform, Golan stated, "Fighters and commanders are paying with their lives as the price of Netanyahu's political existence."
Criticism of 'endless war'
The Israeli opposition leader argued that his country has been waging a "fruitless, victory-less, and insecure" war for two years and eight months.
Golan claimed that while the army has achieved "tremendous military successes," Netanyahu has been incapable of translating them into "long-term stable political results and security."
"Netanyahu knows how to open a front but doesn't know how to close it," said Golan, suggesting that every military move has a clear political purpose, but Netanyahu is either unwilling or unable to end wars.
Call for immediate government change
Golan accused Netanyahu and his far-right partners of preferring "endless war over any political decision."
The opposition leader stated that Netanyahu's government must be removed "as soon as possible," adding, "We will replace him and bring security back to Israel."
Clashes in Lebanon and Netanyahu's threat
Golan's remarks came after four Israeli soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah announced it had set an ambush against Israeli forces and destroyed three tanks.
Netanyahu, in a statement on the X platform, described the soldiers' deaths as a "clear violation" of the ceasefire and promised a "harsh response" to Hezbollah.
The Israeli Prime Minister announced that after assessing the situation with Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, he had instructed the army to strike Hezbollah forcefully.
Tensions continue in the region
The Israeli military continues to carry out airstrikes and artillery fire on towns and villages in southern Lebanon.
These attacks have reportedly resulted in civilian casualties and caused widespread damage to infrastructure.
