Istanbul to host 2027 Spanish Super Cup after beating China and the US
Turki Al Sheikh, Chairman of the Board of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, announced that the 2027 Spanish Super Cup will be held in Istanbul. Al Sheikh said the event would take place in February and serve as an important rehearsal for Istanbul and Türkiye ahead of the 2032 European Championship.
Turki Al Sheikh, Chairman of the Board of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, announced that the 2027 Spanish Super Cup will be held in Istanbul after competition with China and the United States.
Speaking at the tournament’s promotional ceremony in Istanbul, Al Sheikh said he was pleased to have returned to the city in less than two months. He thanked Bilar Erdoğan and the Spanish Football Federation for their work on organizing the event.
Al Sheikh said there had been intense and difficult competition among Türkiye, China and the United States, adding that Istanbul was ultimately selected as the host. Describing the participants in Istanbul as “my family and relatives,” Al Sheikh expressed his pleasure at being in the city.
To be held in February
Al Sheikh said the tournament would take place in February, adding that it would be held for the first time and serve as an important rehearsal for Istanbul and Türkiye ahead of the 2032 European Championship.
Al Sheikh also announced that he and Bilar Erdoğan were preparing a surprise in November and that other events would be held next year. He did not provide details about the content of those events.
Al Sheikh said he hoped the Spanish Super Cup would boost tourism activity in Istanbul, adding that he expected the city’s hotels and restaurants to be full in February.
Al Sheikh said the event could not have been brought to Istanbul so quickly without the support of Bilar Erdoğan and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. At the end of his speech, Al Sheikh also revealed his football preference in Türkiye, saying he was pleased that three clubs were based in Istanbul and that he particularly supported Galatasaray.
