A Learjet 60 private jet carrying nine people crashed into a mobile home community near Greenacres in Palm Beach County, Florida. The crash, which occurred at around 12:50 p.m. local time, created a massive fireball, and burning debris was scattered across the road.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the aircraft had taken off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was bound for North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. A camera on a passing vehicle recorded the moment the aircraft hit the ground.
Incident declared a mass-casualty event
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue declared the incident a “mass-casualty event.” British media reported that emergency crews had confirmed that multiple people had died. The Palm Beach Post said that, as of 3:30 p.m. local time, there had been no official confirmation of any deaths aboard the aircraft or on the ground. The official toll has not yet been announced.

The jet first struck a tree and power lines before crashing into a mobile home on Military Trail. The crash site included a burning crater in the road.

Footage shows crash in slow motion
Slow-motion footage shows the jet descending at an almost vertical angle during the final seconds before hitting the ground. Local news website Boca News Now reported that the aircraft lost approximately 2,400 meters in altitude after making a sharp right turn.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service, conditions in the area were overcast at the time of the crash, with rain and lightning nearby. Easterly winds were approaching 40 kilometers per hour.
NTSB to lead the investigation
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the crash, with the NTSB leading the inquiry. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office closed Military Trail to traffic in both directions. The crash site is approximately 13 kilometers from U.S. President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
Close-up footage filmed by a bystander at the scene shows the crater the jet carved into the asphalt, surrounded by shattered metal and burning debris.
